Job Description Job Description The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving sustained,profitablegrowth for a private-duty home care agency by developing, managing, and converting referral relationships into consistent weekly billable hours. This role requires deep working knowledge of the private-duty home care industry, common objections, realistic conversion timelines, and the operational realities of staffing and care delivery. This is a hands-on, field-based role focused on results—not activity for activity’s sake. This job is for an experienced salesperson with a proven track record. Core Responsibilities Revenue & Growth Execution - Maintain current referral partners - Drive new private-pay referrals that convert into staffed, ongoing cases. - Build predictable growth in weekly billable hours, not just leads - Own the full referral lifecycle: introduction -trust-building -referral -conversion -follow-up - Collaborate with operations/scheduling to ensure referrals can be staffed and retained - Track and report progress against weekly, monthly, and quarterly growth targets Industry Knowledge (Required) - Understands the private-duty home care model: (non-medical / companion / personal care) - How referrals flow in this space - Why families choose private duty vs. home health or hospice - The emotional, urgent, and trust-based nature of family decision-making - How size, duration, and staffing availability affect real revenue - This role is not for someone learning the industry for the first time. Referral Call Points-Must Know & Actively Work With The BDM is expected to confidently and strategically work on the following call points: Healthcare Referral Sources - Hospital case managers & discharge planners - Social workers (acute care, rehab, SNF) - Home health agencies (non-competitive positioning) - Hospice and palliative care teams Community & Professional Referral Sources - Elder law attorneys - Estate planning attorneys - Financial advisors / wealth managers - Geriatric care managers - Assisted living & independent living communities - Senior placement advisors Private Pay Family Pathways - Adult children navigating discharge or decline - Crisis-driven placements (falls, hospitalizations, sudden decline) - Long-term care planning families The BDM must know how to position private duty appropriately at each call point and understand what each referral source cares about. Relationship Management: - Establish the agency as a trusted, reliable solution, not just another vendor - Maintain consistent, professional follow-up without becoming a nuisance - Provide education to referral partners on when and how to use private duty - Represent the agency with confidence, credibility, and urgency - Build long-term referral loyalty not one-off introductions Sales Execution: - Understand the sales cycle and process - Confidently communicate value, differentiation, and expectations - Handle objections related to cost, staffing concerns, and continuity of care - Set realistic expectations with families and referral partners - Move conversations from “busy” to decision-making - Close referrals while maintaining trust and transparency Reporting & Accountability - Track: - - Referral source activity - Referrals received - Conversions to staffed cases - Weekly billable hours generated - Provide regular, concise reporting to ownership - Understand that hours matter more than meetings Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) - Weekly billable hours generated - Referral conversion rate - Active referral sources producing repeat business - Average case size and duration Ideal Candidate Profile - 3 years in private-duty home care business development - Proven track record of building hours, not just relationships - Comfortable being held accountable to numbers - Self-directed, aggressive, and disciplined - Understands startup or growth-stage environments - Willing to be in the field daily - High emotional intelligence with families and professionals Compensation & Growth Opportunity - Competitive base salary-commensurate with experience and current relationships - Performance-based incentives tied to weekly/monthly billable hours - Clear growth path into senior leadership or operations as scale is achieved Opportunity to help build systems and a team, not just sell
