Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position on a
29-bed acute care unit requiring an active IL RN license and night
shift availability. Details - 29-bed acute care Med/Surg unit in a
hospital setting, with a typical census of 22-26 patients - Patient
population includes a wide range of medical diagnoses including GI
bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, DVT, pulmonary embolisms,
osteomyelitis, comfort care, and post-procedure patients -
Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights - RNs
are required to titrate Heparin drips - Patients may have oxygen
requirements up to 6L NC, and stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or PRN; no
vents on unit - Telemetry monitoring is handled remotely by the
house-wide telemetry department; unit equipment is primarily
Philips - 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) - Every other weekend
required; night shift weekend is Friday/Saturday - Holidays are
rotated among staff - No on-call or standby requirement - Travelers
are first to float as needed to other Med/Surg-like units; no ICU
or chemo patient assignments - EMR: Epic Requirements - Active IL
RN license required; pending licensure is not accepted - Active BLS
certification required at time of consideration - Minimum 1 year of
RN experience required - BSN is not required Additional Information
- 24-hour charge RN coverage on the unit; the charge RN is
typically assignment-free - 24-hour PCT coverage with a 1:10
PCT-to-patient ratio; 24-hour unit clerk coverage - RNs are
expected to attempt IV starts and use unit resources if
unsuccessful; an inpatient phlebotomy team handles blood draws -
Orientation consists of 2 shifts - Any color scrubs are acceptable;
staff must provide their own scrubs; pediatric-themed scrubs are
not permitted - Drug-free campus; a negative drug screen for all
panels is required - Two professional references are required: one
supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or
supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of
employment and rehire eligibility - Local candidates are welcome to
