We are looking for a driven, Associate Level- Product Design Engineer working with Consumer Product Goods to join our Product Development Team. This position will have a mechanical engineer background and will work closely with the New Product Development Manager, Lab and Product Manager testing our safety products. This position requires you to be on-site full time. POSITION SUMMARY The Product Design Engineer is responsible for Minor (Management Change, Customer, Sales, Marketing) & Off the Shelf Product Development via Stage Gate Product Development process. Line Extension --- Products that supplement a business---s existing product line Cost Reduction --- Product or Process change affecting fob cost Quality Improvement --- Product/Process change affecting Warranty, Consumer Satisfaction Other --- Packaging, Conversions, Supplier Sourcing, Dash Codes, Customer Testing ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES Product Research / Ideation Regularly review competitor products and report findings to Director of Engineering. Identify various outsourced products for line extension opportunities. Conduct technical feasibility testing on select products to determine which new product ideas are viable for product portfolio. Support Director of Engineering on complex product developments and NPI projects. Product Testing Complete functional/performance/durability evaluation of products. Investigate and perform analysis of product and process continuous improvements. Coordinate the creation of testing protocols for new products. Develop test equipment for product testing and validation. Coordinate product sample submissions for consumer and regulatory agencies such as UL, CSA, IEC, ETL, and FCC. Product Creation Responsible for coordinating all Minor and Off the Shelf Product to support and enable sales Develop knowledge of products and customer requirements. Evaluate and resolve technical feasibility, design optimization and production related issues. Assist in preserving all regulatory, safety and environmental areas while upholding good manufacturing and laboratory practice. Product Documentation -- Create product drawings and specifications as required. Create and maintain product requirements, technical and functional documentation for reference purposes and in compliance to ISO standards. Work closely with SABRE Laboratory & Quality Control Department to develop test procedures and technical specifications. Assist Product Manager in ensuring all packaging, labels, and marketing/promotional literature match product specifications. Production Support Manage change control of Bill of Material and design verification test plans using Engineering Change Request system with production. Support Manufacturing team to develop build process instructions. Project management Manage and coordinate NPE product development projects from concept to commercialization. Maintain clear and prioritized task list for all project details using project management software. COMPETENCIES Project Management Strong Communication & Collaboration Skills Proven Problem Solving/Analysis/Troubleshooting Aptitude Adept Strategic Thinking and Decision Making Experience in DFMEA --- Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis Familiarity with DFM - Design for Manufacture practice Must be confident and capable in a customer-facing role, demonstrate proactive thinking and be able to manage change and ambiguity. Ability to grasp requisite skills outside of core skill set is preferred. General awareness of Quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001). Familiarity with regulatory test standards (ASTM, ASME, IEEE, UL, CSA, ISO, etc.) preferred. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS BS/BA degree in related field, Mechanical Engineering preferred. Minimum 3 years of direct professional experience in consumer product development. Proven understanding of the product development process from concept to launch. Mechanical design experience, including plastic-injection molded parts. Experience with mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Results oriented, self-motivated with solid planning & organizational capabilities. Must be able to manage several projects with priority. Must be able to communicate well between sales, marketing, production, management, quality control, etc. to advance initiatives successfully through the product development process. Travel as required by project for customer visits or to attend industry trade shows. Proficiency using SolidWorks to produce CAD models/drawings using proper GD&T practice. Established use of MS Project, Excel, Word & PowerPoint as well as Teams or other communication software. Experience in product testing (EMC, environmental, vibration, durability, software validation). Adherence to all company policies and procedures. Experience working successfully in a multi-skilled environment and possession of cross-disciplinary skills. A passion for design with attention to detail. Broad awareness and appreciation of differing global business cultures.
