Job ID: -107221 -The Leonardo DRS Land Systems business is a recognized leader in the design and integration of complex technologies into new and legacy systems and platforms for global military and commercial customers. Job Summary Promote DRS Quality mission and Operational Excellence (OpEx) program to establish a culture of innovation and peak efficiency across the organization, championing the deployment of superior processes in lieu of traditional inspection activities and ensuring delivery of continuously improving value and compliance to customers and the business unit. Provide strategic leadership for the development of the quality management system, so that a full continuum of support is created and structured in response to customer needs. Guide the development of the department and strategic plan and create goals and plans for quality management and OpEx initiatives throughout the company. Job Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the development of the quality management system so that a full continuum of support is created and structured in response to customer needs
  • Responsible for executing and leading the OpEx strategies in alignment with the overall business strategy of the company to include strategy alignment, innovation, optimized processes and tools, common measurements, bench strength, and establishing metrics that improve efficiency and reduce costs across the organization.
  • Develop, in conjunction with the business unit GM and human resources staff, effective human resources management plans and strategies for the department in compliance with ISO or other relevant standard requirements
  • Work closely with business unit and corporate leadership to establish quality and OpEx policies, provide guidance, and assess appropriate levels of risk associated with specific policy requirements.
  • Explore creative alternative processes to achieve highest possible quality and lowest possible cost (best value) with appropriate utilization, management and emphasis on preventive quality measures
  • Work with IT on processes and tools to effectively measure and help drive enhanced performance.
  • Seek consensus in finding balance between implementation of best practices across businesses and business unit / corporate leaders.
  • Ensure Quality leaders/team are adhering to company policies and standards and are working together as a team to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure a Total Quality Management approach that drives common processes across the entire execution spectrum, with emphasis on requirement satisfaction in the design process.
  • Review business unit metrics and undertake audits across all sites to ensure compliance at an organizational level.
  • Ensure compliance with all external regulatory agencies and organizations for all areas of responsibility
  • Coordinate with Corporate Audit and Compliance groups on Risk and Knowledge Management
  • Provide necessary assistance and technical expertise to Business Units and to projects Job Responsibilities Part II
    • Support Corrective Action Request (CAR) responses and share best practices
    • Develop supportive working relationships with other executives and support team leaders to ensure a seamless continuum of product and service quality
    • Proactively identify and alert business unit senior leadership of quality concerns in time to resolve potential adverse effects to the customer, company image/reputation, and/or the corporation
    • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization
    • Build strong relationships with internal and external leaders across the organization (e.g., SVP/GMs, business unit leaders of Quality/OpEx) related to continuous improvement, quality, and compliance plan initiatives
    • Inspire, motivate, and communicate vision to teammates, peers, business unit leadership and build consensus toward adoption of and commitment to appropriate standards for Corporate Quality and the OpEx program
    • Determine and develop OpEx, Quality, and compliance competencies and skills needed for the on-going success of the corporation, with an eye towards continual building of competencies to enable the corporate vision and mission
    • Retains and manages the development of personnel to support the on-going and progressive business needs including identifying and developing successors for critical positions
    • Attend appropriate customer, business unit or Program meetings
    • Prepare quality engineering reports and recommendations
    • Provide regular reporting of progress and status
    • Completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree in Quality, Engineering, or related technical field. Master's degree in related field highly preferred.
      • 15 years of relevant experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; including 5 years of experience focused on Lean Practice, Problem Solving, or Operational Excellence/Continuous Improvement
      • Successful candidate must have demonstrated leadership experience and success
      • Strong understanding and experience in Engineering Systems Design and Quality principles.
      • Experience in implementing and managing formal QMS (CMMI, ISO, Six Sigma)
      • Certification is highly desired in ASQ Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
      • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, negotiation, communication and writing skills
