position is responsible for educating patients of their financial
liability and developing patient payment arrangements for patient
liabilities. The Patient Care Coordinator services one hospital
facility and reports to the Patient Access Services manager.This
position is full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to
work our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm. It may be
necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or
weekends. Our office is located at Saint Mary's Hospital, 6420
Clayton Road, Saint Louis, MO.Primary Responsibilities:This is a
patient facing role. You will work onsite at the hospital
coordinating the following duties.
- Screen patients for eligibility for other potential funding
sources when a patient is not able to meet his or her liability
related to their service.
- Initiate financial assistance application and assess patients
for Charity Care eligibility.
- Coordinate with Patient Service Center to ensure financial
clearance of in-house patients.
- Coordinate with Patient Service Center to ensure appropriate
education of financial clearance responsibilities for Labor &
Delivery patients.
- Develop patient payment plan for self pay applicants and assist
with financial arrangement for patient care encounters.
- Coordinate efforts within the Patient Access department to
determine and educate the patient of their financial liabilities,
collect any amounts owed, and oversee the financial investigation
to identify payment sources and possible alternatives.
- Assist patients with onsite customer service functions (e.g.,
billing, medical record, and collection inquiries) by coordinating
with other patient business services functions and
departments.
- Perform cashiering functions when necessary.
- Coordinate discharge processing with On-site staff, Case
Management and Clinicians.
- Hours are 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday CST. Saint Louis University

- High School Diploma / GED (or higher) with 10 years work
experience.
- 2+ years of Customer Service experience such as hospital,
office setting, customer service setting, or phone support
- Ability to work onsite (Saint Mary's Hospital, 6420 Clayton
Road, Saint Louis, MO.) in a hospital setting
- Ability to work Monday - Friday during normal business hours of
8:00am - 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to
work occasional overtime or weekends.
- Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this

Qualifications:
- EPIC experience
- Medicaid or financial counseling experience
- 1+ years of electronic health record experience
- Health Insurance experienceSoft Skills
- The ability to set measure and consistently achieve goals
within established timelines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, collegial,
professional relationships with peers, staff and other regular
contacts.
- Clear understanding of the impact financial counselor services
has on patient business services operations and financial
performance.
- Exceptional communications and customer service skills.
- Possess understanding of and follows regulations outlined by
state, federal, and third-party coverage procedures.
- Experience with Medicaid and charity care application
process.
- Dedication to treating both internal and external constituents
as clients and customers, maintaining a flexible customer service
approach and orientation that emphasizes service satisfaction and
quality.
