Job Description Job Title: Tool Designer Location: Fenton, MO Salary: 50k+ / Year Exciting opportunity in Arnold, MO for a Manufacturing Engineer to lead complex projects in developing methods and processes for automotive, consumer products, and medical device production. Responsibilities include investigating, recommending requirements, and improving tooling and manufacturing practices to reduce costs and enhance product quality. Also, directing and training lower classification employees. Key Responsibilities:Quote new tooling and tooling repairs to existing tooling and related gages and fixtures. Work with the Sales Account Managers providing Cycle time, number of cavities and tonnage required. Formulate list of concerns / feasibility review for DFM. Create tool concepts as needed.Obtaining over seal tool costs and estimates, complete and ship to US.Work with overseas tool shops on design and build and sampling and shipping material to and from source.Work with customer for part changes for robust tooling DFM.Proficient in reading blueprint and understanding GD&T.The ability to correct and 3d file and or create 3d part models for injection molding / insert molding.Manage the design and build of injection molds / insert molds including associate product gaging / fixtures including engineering changes.Develop in-process inspection criteria including part process through to finished part completion.Work with metal stamping design to improve seal off areas around metal inserts.Develop project completion timelinesWork with Quality Assurance leads in the development of control plan & PFMEA and incoming inspection criteria for outside services for new and existing tooling.Review first article inspections, CPK studies assuring dimensional and capability conformance to be included in PPAP to the customer.Create purchase requisitions for injection molds, mold repairs, engineering changes, and spare components.Submit deviation requests to customers where applicable.Participate with customer and supplier NCR resolutions.Participate in ECO change management process for metals manufacturing plant. Required Qualifications:Five or more years of hands-on experience in a job shop manufacturing environment.Three to five years of experience in tool room activities, including tool, die/mold design and build practices. BS Engineering degree is preferred.Five or more years of experience in Sales estimation / quotation support.Hands-on experience in a production Injection molds and prototype tooling environment.Experience designing, building, and troubleshooting Injection molding and insert molding, and secondary operations and assembly. Must have good organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.Must have the ability to take project from design concept to final production with minimal direction.Knowledge of vision system and other in mold safeties.Knowledge of automation and trouble shoot equipment.Work with mold processor to improve part quality and molding cycle.Proficiency with personal computers utilizing Excel, Power point and solid modeling, with Visi CAD / CAM or Solidworks and or AutoCad.Able to use mold flow to assist in gate placement and designing a more balance mold.Knowledge of quality control systems such as ISO9001 and IATF16949Metal stamping knowledge is a plus.Demonstrated ability to be proactive and take initiative and organize multiple projects and establish priorities.Ability to train others using demonstration, written, and oral communication skills.Ability to effectively work across all manufacturing functional groups and lead improvement initiatives cross functionally.10% - 20% travel required.
