A typical branch office has one financial advisor who meets with clients face-to-face and one branch office administrator who enhances the team's ability to build deep relationships with clients. Lead a team responsible for providing the firm with guidance and understanding of the firm's compliance policies. Accountable for overseeing the daily operations, measurements and oversight of the department including ensuring verification letters and address letters are reviewed and accounts are updated according to regulation and department policy. Ensures excellent service to clients, branch teams and home-office departments through phone and written inquires. Partners with other areas across the firm (e.g. New Accounts, Legal, Technology and Solutions, Culture of Compliance, Field Supervision and Information Systems) to consult with and understand the compliance intersections and collaboration opportunities.Attracts and develops talent to meet the growing needs of the firm. Apply strategic thinking through assessment of statistical insights and partner with business stakeholders to develop changes to firm policies and processes that lead to a better client experience. Lead complex and/or technical projects related to regulatory policies and processes.Represent the department to other business areas of the firm, industry regulators, and participate in industry and vendor related conferences. Provide guidance and handle escalations from home office associates, branch teams and division stakeholders regarding regulatory policies and processes, some of which may be complex and involve rule interpretation. Key stakeholder on firm and division level projects to ensure the Verification Letter area requirements are included and appropriately tested.Conduct sensitive conversations with clients, branch teams, and home office areas regarding the requirements for client verification letters.Responsible for owning relationships with Legal and Division Privacy leaders. This includes fulfilling regulatory, litigation, or other requests regarding privacy breaches.The team leader is responsible for providing candid, constructive performance feedback through performance reviews, oversight and other just-in-time interactions with team members. The team leader is highly engaged in preparing talent for role progression, for increased responsibilties within the division and/or firm.Qualifications Required in the Job:
Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experienceSeries 7 & 66 (or equivalent) requiredSeries 9 & 10 (or equivalent) and Insurance license preferredSeries 24 required within 12 monthsMinimum of 5 years of experience in financial services is required Minimum of 1 year in people or project leadership role, or increasing levels of responsibilities, requiredThis position requires knowledge of SEC rule 17a-3, FINRA 3110, FINRA 2090 and other applicable Federal and State regulations; as well as firm policies and processesMust be able to effectively communicate, lead a team and manage relationships with others
Problem Solving:
Required to have excellent communication skills and be able to clearly deliver difficult messages. Required to make numerous daily judgment calls that routinely impact the firm, branch team and client.
Ability to review, understand and apply industry rules and regulations, firm policy, state and local laws to make account updates.
Must identify, recommend and implement solutions regarding team processes, systems, regulations, resource allocation and controls. Must provide direction to those responsible to them to help make informed decisions. Must have knowledge of technology and tools available to identify and implement solutions and create process efficiencies for the team in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.Conflict resolution and appeals of decisions from financial advisors, regional leaders, or other leaders in the home office.Ability to make difficult decisions in gray areas when little or no regulatory guidance is available Ability to interpret statistical insights and apply strategic thinking to identify gaps in firm regulatory policies and procedures and develop solutions.
Decision Making:
High level of decision making required and decisions will be complex due to the breadth and nature of the situations, regulations and firm policies.Decisions are non-routine and require the use of sound judgment that represents an assumption of business risk. Team leader will be responsible for making independent decisions when exceptions, gray areas, or new issues arise.Team leader decisions could result in medium to long-term implications for the client, branch team, associate and the firm. Incorrect decisions could result in future financial, legal, reputational and regulatory risk. Issues may be brought up at a later date due to a customer complaint, arbitration case, or as an inquiry from a regulatorPosition has a high degree of risk due to the breadth of the role and the impact on regulatory policies and procedures. Regulatory risk can be high, which could result in arbitration, litigation, fines and/or enforcement actions. The team leader needs to be aware of significant issues and ensure appropriate resolutions are implemented.
