Overview
Gathers and analyzes information from physician and office staff
for surgical and procedural patients. Works towards a complete
record to include history and physical, clinical status, and all
appropriate tests are completed prior to procedure. Initiates
surgical orders/plan of care per protocol(s). Communicates
potential concerns to surgeons, proceduralists and/or
anesthesiologists pre-procedurally based on information obtained in
order to enhance the coordination of pre-procedural care between
surgical care team members and ensure delivery of safe and timely
service. Embodies the Memorial Health System Performance Excellence

Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school with current licensure
in the State of Illinois as a registered nurse. BSN
preferred.Licensure/Certification/Registry:
- RNExperience:
- Minimum of 2 years of current nursing experience.Other
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Comprehension of MMC clinical services, procedures, and
documentation requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking to complex
patient problems.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with office
staffs, physicians and MMC personnel.
Responsibilities
- Assists in compiling required pre-procedural documents and
creating a patient record consisting of physician orders, H&P,
patient profile and results of pre-procedural testing. Retrieves
appropriate medical records located within facility. Contacts
physicians, office staffs and others to obtain appropriate
documents.
- Monitors progress toward achieving completion of pre-procedural
requirements prior to the date of admission. Contacts physician
office staffs to provide guidance and assist in developing a plan
to achieve requirements. Contacts appropriate sites to obtain
necessary documents to meet timeline.
- Evaluates medical history and documentation of clinical status
of individual patients and identifies appropriate tests required
according to anesthesia guidelines. Identifies abnormal results and
potential disorders/anesthesia risks requiring additional
evaluation. Refers appropriate patient records for anesthesia
review and facilitates physician/anesthesiologist consultation.
- Monitors response to identified concerns and pursues resolution
to issues to ensure optimal patient safety is achieved. Calls
patients prior to procedure to provide pre-procedure instructions
and education, including medication dosage, physician orders and
anesthesia guidelines.

- Reviews patient history and planned procedure to determine a
safe and timely plan for administration of preoperative
medications.
- Initiates preoperative antibiotic care plan and forwards to
charge nurse to support safe and timely administration of
preoperative medications.
- Prior to the day of procedure, reviews patient charts. Creates
a summary documenting status of pre-procedural testing and unique
care required of individual patients scheduled for admission.
Shares data with charge nurse to assist in creating plan of
care.
- Gathers data to evaluate compliance of physicians and office
staffs related to preadmission guidelines. Assists in developing
communication/education plans for individual physicians/office
staffs, providing guidance, direction and support related process
improvement.
- Actively participates in advancing unit and department process
improvement agendas.
- Performs other related work as required or requested.
