Medical/IMC Fast paced unit requiring critical thinking skills 64
bed unit based on two newly remodeled floors. Patients on the 6th
and 7th floors are a combination of trauma, medical and surgical
patients who can be IMC, general, or general with telemetry.
Employee will care for patients with complex medical needs that may
include, but are not limited to: GI bleeds, COPD, CHF, trachs,
wounds, and various types of drips. Unit is capable of caring for
stable, chronic ventilated patients. Very busy unit. General job
duties. Types of procedures required: Perform system assessment,
ADLs, I & O, IV therapy, O2 therapy, Telemetry, medication
administration Equipment utilized in the unit/dept: EPIC, Pyxis
Required skills and minimum years of experience: Must have
experience with EKG monitoring and be able to interpret strips.
Minimum of 2 years medical/surgical/trauma acute care experience.
IV therapy, Titration of drips (ex. cardizem, nitro, amiodarone,
etc), chest tubes, trach care, wound care Specific licensures and
certifications/registrations required: Active IL state nursing
license. American Heart Association BLS. NIHSS(if they don't have
it, can be completed during orientation) Shift or schedule
requirements: 12 hour shifts, based on time of request. Rotating
weekends and holidays as needed. Floating to over
units/departments: Possibility of floating to other Med Surg areas:
(neuro, surgical, oncology and ortho patients). Bed size/number of
rooms for this unit/dept: 32 private rooms on each floor, with
central cardiac monitoring system. Nurse to patient ratio of this
unit: 1:4 (5) Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs Unit specific training
and orientation program: Take EKG and Med test within the first 2
days. 1 week of orientation (3- 12 hr shifts or 2- 8's/2-12's).
Complete hospital required CBLs, pass basic Medication test, pass
telemetry test and be able to interpret telemetry strips on
