ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE (SIUSOM) is seeking an
accomplished clinician scientist or scientist to become Director of
our Center for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (CADRD).
This tenured/tenure track position will also hold the Kenneth Stark
Endowed Chair in Alzheimer's Disease Research. Neurologists,
geriatricians, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, neuroscientists
and others with an advanced degree and commensurate experience and
skills are invited to apply. Southern Illinois University offers a
dynamic, challenging, busy and satisfying position within the
School of Medicine.
The CADRD is funded by a large annual grant of $1.5 million from
the State of Illinois as well as academic support from the school
and Memorial Medical Center. The Center has an outreach network of
32 hospitals or clinics throughout Illinois, a brain bank and
autopsy program, a neuropsychology program, a robust clinical
trials program, dedicated wet lab space, equipment and personnel,
core laboratory facilities, the SIU Center for Clinical Research
and specialty clinics for the treatment of Alzheimer disease and
other degenerative dementias. Five faculty and two midlevel
providers are actively engaged in clinical care, clinical trials
and basic research related to Alzheimer's disease with federal,
state and foundation funding in excess of $7 million. At least one
additional faculty position beyond this one is available for the
center. CADRD is in the SIU Neuroscience Institute, which is
comprised of the departments of Neurology and Psychiatry and the
divisions of Neurosurgery, PM&R and Psychology, offering
opportunities for multi-disciplinary care and research
SIU School of Medicine has recently celebrated its 45th anniversary
and has received national and international recognition for
innovation in medical education. Two major 500 bed academic medical
facilities serve the community and are teaching sites for SIU
School of Medicine.
Highlights of the position and area include:
- Developing a new vision and strategy for the CADRD, resulting
in re-organization and development in all areas of administration,
outreach, teaching, research and medical services, using the state
grant to leverage growth in the research and clinical
