Eaton's Connected Solutions Group is currently seeking a Lead
Mechanical Engineer. This position is based at our Lincoln, IL
facility. Relocation assistance will be provided.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $88499.97 -
$129799.96 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable
incentive program.

What you'll do:
The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the creative design
and development of intelligent circuit protection and power
management products, electric vehicle chargers, plus other
IoT-connected products and system solutions. This position will
contribute to the overall eletro-mechanical design of the product
with involvement from project initiation thru manufacturing launch,
plus ongoing developments and support. Functional responsibility
includes design, testing and certification of the components plus
systems as well as product qualification for performance,
reliability, DFMA, and cost optimization of the final product. This
position will work closely with the Engineering Director,
Engineering Managers, Program Managers, other Mechanical Engineers
and System Architects, Electrical/Software Engineers, Product Line
Marketing Manager, and Operations team members, Sourcing and
Manufacturing personnel to develop the products in an organized and
expedient fashion.
This role requires strong ideation skills and the ability to
simultaneously manage multiple projects. Experience with injection
molding, sheet metal stamping, and assembly processes are
preferred. The incumbent should possess strong communication skills
and the ability to work effectively with others in a high paced
environment.
Lead and participate in team new product development/introduction,
innovation, idea creation and implementation for a range of
Connected Solutions projects, including: connected load centers,
smart power switching devices, EV Chargers.
Support and provide sustaining engineering for existing products
such as EV Smart Breaker Wall Chargers, VA/VE component
substitutions plus other related products.
Serve as the mechanical design owner, make engineering decisions
based on product performance test results, inspection reports,
tooling assessments, DFMA considerations, product cost metrics and
team input.
Coordinate product design updates and test report preparation per
regulatory standards (UL, CSA, NEC, SAE and other codes), works
with internal and external stakeholders for technical report
approvals.
Perform mechanical engineering, CAD solid modeling, drawing
creation and maintenance, prototype preparation, design simulation,
product specifications, BOM and ECO creation, systems development,
product testing/results analysis and design validation.
Create and coordinate product performance test plans with internal
and external labs.
Participate in project management and engaging with
multi-disciplined teams to achieve goals using ProLaunch and other
project management tools.
Participate in Voice of the Customer (VOC) product, market
requirements research and competitive benchmarking.
Organize and coordinate work with team peers, extended internal
team members and external developers.
Leverage Eaton business standard processes for product development
assignments (i.e. design standards, ECO processes, product safety
assessment, FMEA, BOM structure, manufactured product cost
estimations, project timeline and milestone planning).
Maintain and upgrades existing products, participate in technical
customer service support.
Provide assistance with 3rd party certifications and regulatory
compliance initiatives.
Ensure timely completion and accurate results delivered to project
commitment dates.
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology from an
accredited institution
Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development of
electromechanical products/systems per industry regulatory
standards
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without
company sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited
institution
Previous experience with root cause analysis and troubleshooting
engineering systems.
5-10+ years of engineering product development experience in
electro-mechanical products, IoT connected products and/or circuit
protection products
Experience working in a global business environment with remote
teams to deliver the best results while leveraging very diverse
experiences within the team
Voice of the Customer (VOC) experience and Design Thinking
experience with output applied to successful product
developments
CAD/SolidWorks/CREO solid modeling experience and the ability to
develop 2D drawings and assembly documentation including design
intent
Skills:
Solid understanding of electro-mechanical product development
principles including design of mechanisms, plastic parts, metallic
parts, packaging of the final product in compliance with
specifications and regulatory compliance standards
Understanding of phase gate project management tools and
techniques
Knowledge using ERP systems and engineering design control
processes
Great planning and communication skills, demonstrated high
performance in achieving goals and follow thru on commitments
